The Department of Environmental Biology – Sapienza – University of Rome is selecting young researchers for a post-doc for a period of 1 year.

The project will take advantage of existing datasets of forest structure and multi-taxonomic biodiversity in Italy, France and Hungary. The aim of the project is to use these datasets at combine these structural and multi-taxonomic biodiversity data on deciduous European forests to test the following hypotheses:
• a higher degree of forest structural heterogeneity results in higher levels of biological diversity for multiple taxonomic groups, i.e. habitat-based surrogates;
• the existence of a substantial congruence in the response of different taxa to different levels of structural heterogeneity of forest systems, i.e. cross-taxon congruence.

The post-doc will be supervised jointly by an international team of researchers (Carlo Blasi, Sabina Burrascano, Yoan Paillet, Peter Odor) and will have the possibility to spend a period of three months at the IRSTEA (France, Antony) and to travel to MTA ÖK Centre for Ecological Research, Institute of Ecology and Botany, Hungary if needed.
Research experience on the analysis of heterogeneous datasets of species diversity and forest structural attributes will be particularly valued. Also research experience on the relationships between forest structure and species diversity will be considered as a valuable qualification. Sound statistical abilities and specific skills relative to the software R are required.

We offer a sunny and pleasant location, a unique set of data, the possibility to interact with an international team of forest researchers and to travel across different Departments and countries, a net monthly salary of 1460 euros.

We require a strong willingness to finalize a relevant scientific paper on the topic through sound statistical analyses and ecological interpretations.
