The Stauffer Lab in the Department of Biology at UL Lafayette (www.staufferlab.weebly.com) is seeking highly motivated Ph.D. or M.S. (thesis track) applicants for the Fall 2016 semester. We have a graduate assistantship available through Louisiana Sea Grant on a project investigating abiotic and biotic controls of phytoplankton communities in the coastal bays of southern Louisiana. This project will utilize both laboratory experiments and field work. There are also several fellowship opportunities for well-qualified applicants to the Ph.D. program.

Qualifications (Ph.D.): A Masters degree in a related field is preferred, but well-qualified graduates with a B.S. and research experience will also be considered.

Qualifications (M.S.): An undergraduate degree in biology, marine sciences, or oceanography, and some research experience.

The UL Lafayette campus is located in the heart of Acadiana – a rich cultural area nown for its excellent food, music, festivals and quality of life. The Biology Department consists of approximately 30 faculty members, over 70 students currently pursuing graduate degrees, and several postdoctoral research associates. The Biology Department is actively growing with new faculty hires in the last two years and three expected this year. We are actively engaged in research and education as part of one of the largest biology programs located on the Gulf Coast.
