Postdoctoral position

The CESAB project « Score-Reef » is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic coral reef ecologist to contribute to a project investigating trends in coral reef benthic and fish communities over space and time. The final goal of the project is that of assessing the performance of existing ecological indicators in reflecting coral reef ecosystem functioning. The results of this project will have an impact on existing monitoring network in French Overseas territories.

The position is a 2-years post-doc and the project is funded by CESAB in Montpellier (France). The project coordinators – V. Parravicini (EPHE) and M. Adjeroud (IRD) are both based in Perpignan (France) and the post-doc is expected to be based at the CRIOBE in Perpignan, at least for the first year of the contract to interact with coordinators in the early phases of Score-Reef.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a strong ecological background, field experience for the assessment coral reefs and a demonstrated ability to evaluate ecosystem functioning. The ideal candidate also possesses programming skills, and has experience in writing high impact scientific papers. A proactive and enthusiastic approach and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Attention to detail and excellent English writing skills are essential to meet the exciting and challenging goals of the project.

The CRIOBE is a research laboratory with more than 70 staff, including academic professors, research scientists and administrative and technical personnel from three of France’s premiere research institutions – École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE), the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Perpignan Via Domitia (UPVD) – that together form the CRIOBE USR 3278 research unit. The CRIOBE falls under the prestigious umbrella of the PSL (Paris Sciences & Letters) Research University.
